On Wednesday September 19th, Dutch construction company BAM Wonen hosted its second ‘Thuiswarming’, an inspiring event about sustainability and circularity in the construction sector. FlexSol Solutions was invited to show its solar roof tile, as a perfect example of an innovation that has great potential for making the Dutch housing stock more sustainable – as Ed Nijpels explained last week on Dutch Radio. The solar roof presented at the Thuiswarming is unique, as these solar roof tiles are the first few of a series that will be used for the construction of the very first full-scale demonstration roof that will be realised together with BAM Wonen the coming months on a house in Purmerend, The Netherlands.
Positive responses on demonstrated solar product
The responses on the example roof presented at the Thuiswarming were overwhelmingly positive. Many attendees – architects, real estate developers, councils, investors and more – were very impressed by the aesthetics of the FlexSol solar roof, and expressed the importance of maintaining the traditional appearance and variety of housing in The Netherlands. Some did not even realise they were looking at a solar roof, as the solar cells are hardly visible and one could easily think the roof is nothing more than a traditional tiled roof.
